Regatta al Sol Amigos

It is with remordimiento profundo (deep remorse) that the Regata al Sol 2020, co-sponsored by Southern Yacht Club, Pensacola Yacht Club and Club de Yates de Isla Mujeres, has been postponed to either 2021 or 2022. I will work with our friends in Isla Mujeres to set a date in the near future.

Between the US State Department’s advisory banning foreign travel (or return) for American citizens and the shutdown of some critical services in Isla Mujeres (bars!) the regatta can not go on this year. Those that sent in entry fees will receive a full refund in the coming week or two (the Regata al Sol checkbook is in my desk at work, that building is now shut down). In the meantime please remember to cancel any airline, hotel or moped reservations you may have made.

Our best wishes to you and your family in surviving this event (both physically and financially) as well as to our family in Isla Mujeres. I would ask all to raise a margarita to “virtually” toast everyone on May 14th, the scheduled date for the awards party and keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers.

Co-Chairman
Regata al Sol

In 2021 or 2022 Gulf Coast sailors will celebrate the 31st sailing of the Regata al Sol from Pensacola, Florida to Isla Mujeres, Mexico. This biennial premier offshore race is sponsored by Southern Yacht Club, Pensacola Yacht Club, and the Club de Yates Isla de Mujeres. The start of the race will be May 6th and 7th 2020. The course will take racers from Pensacola Bay 555 nautical miles across the Gulf of Mexico to Isla Mujeres, Mexico just off the Yucatan coast from Cancun. This race offers all the excitement of an offshore race as well as the challenge of navigating the Gulf loop current.
